Atelier do Sapato makes beautiful ladies’ shoes and bags
Atelier do Sapato was founded in 2007 by Portugese shoe producer Macosmi and Dutch designer Rense Hekstra. “Atelier do Sapato” literally means “shoe manufacturer” in Portugese and it stands for love for well-manufactured shoes and respect for craftsmanship of the people in the factory in Portugal, where all Atelier do Sapato shoes are being made.
The starting point of their products is a collection of vintage shoes that the designer has collected over the years. “I try to learn from the past by looking at the craftsmanship with which vintage shoes are made and designed. To learn from the secrets that are hidden in these shoes and to use this in new designs that fit our time. The goal is always to design a new classic.”
Today, there are 130 points of sale, among which high-fashion stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Hong Kong and Japan. “We would like to stay a fine, small label in order to prevent things from getting out of hand and to make sure we will still be able to make everything ourselves. The most important thing is the product.” So far, Atelier do Sapato only sells ladies’ shoes and bags, but in the future, a men’s collection will follow.
